Nancy Tankersley began her artistic journey as a portrait painter but transitioned into the gallery scene with figurative works, often depicting people in various work and leisure settings. Constantly seeking the unexpected, she now explores landscapes, figures, and still life, while staying true to her impressionistic roots. Tankersley incorporates unconventional tools, surfaces, and technologies into her work. A prominent figure in the plein air movement, she co-founded Plein Air Easton and travels worldwide for competitions, judging, and teaching. She has served as an instructor and demonstrator at the Plein Air Convention in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2023, and has released instructional videos with Lilliedahl (now Paint Tube TV)
.
Her accolades include being invited to exhibit at the Masters Exhibition at NYC’s Salmagundi Club in 2016 and 2017. Notable awards include Best of Show at the 2017 Lighthouse Plein Air Festival and Parrsboro International Plein Air in 2018, as well as the Dickinson Award for Best Painting by a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society in 2016 and 2022. In 2019, she was the Featured Artist at the 49th Waterfowl Festival in Easton, Maryland.
In 2024, Tankersley served as Judge for the 20th Anniversary Easton Plein Air Competition and had a solo exhibition titled Reflections at the Academy Art Museum. A Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society, the American Society for Marine Art, and the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters, she is also a juried member of the Washington Society for Landscape Painters. As the founder and director of Easton Studio, a workshop space launched in 2010, Tankersley teaches and mentors nationally and internationally, while also sponsoring workshops led by prominent artists. Her work has been featured in Plein Air Magazine and Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine.
